Air Fryer Garlic Bread
Cheese and garlic pull apart or crack bread - not only easy to make but also fun.
Sourdough bread stuffed with cheddar and mozzarella, what's not to like? I made mine in my Ninja Speedi (air fryer setting) but it can also be cooked in the oven.
Ingredients for cheesy garlic pull-apart bread
- 1 x crusty loaf (preferably sourdough) approx. 430g
- 1 x large garlic bulb
- 50g extra matured cheddar plus a little more for sprinkling towards the end of cooking
- 200g mozzarella cucina (the kind that doesn't have any liquid and is ideal for slicing and grating)
- 100g unsalted butter - softened not melted
- olive oil
- a handful of flat leaf parsley
- salt and black pepper to season
Gather the ingredients - let's cook!
How to make this garlicky cheese stuffed bread loaf
Slice the top off of the garlic bulb and put it into kitchen foil.
Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt.
Set the temperature to 180°C/356°F set the time for 30 minutes and then remove it from the air fryer.
Oven instructions below
Carefully unwrap (it's hot) and check the garlic is cooked by gently inserting a sharp knife into one of the cloves - it should be soft and gooey. 😋
Finely chop the parsley. Mix the softened butter in a bowl and sprinkle in the cheddar cheese.
The reason you need to use softened butter rather than melted butter
If you use melted butter you would need loads more as it would soak into the bread too quickly.😉
Now squeeze in the garlic and mix it all together.
Add the parsley and mix well to combine.
Cut the bread most of the way through in a criss-cross pattern.
Using a teaspoon, your task is to cram that cheesy garlicky butter into each criss-cross.
Now poke the sliced mozzarella into the cuts.
Top tip!
If you're using an air fryer make a sling using a large sheet of kitchen foil folded into a triple layer of foil and place it underneath your loaf.
That way it will be easier to remove from the air fryer when it's cooked.😉
Preheat your air fryer to 210°C/410°F for 5 minutes. I used my Ninja Speedi on the air fryer setting.
Then place the bread into your air fryer and tuck the foil just underneath the bread, otherwise, the foil will blow up onto the heating element.😨
Air fry at the same temperature (210°C) for 15-20 minutes.
Remove the foil and sprinkle a little bit more grated cheddar over the top, for good health!
With the foil removed, continue to air fry for another 5-10 minutes until the cheese has melted.
Oven method
To roast the garlic, prepare the bread as per the instructions and preheat your oven to 180°C /360°F then place it onto a baking tray, cover with foil and cook for about 50 minutes to an hour.
To bake the bread, wrap it in foil and place it onto a baking tray.
Bake for 10 minutes, then remove the foil and any remaining butter mixture if you have it.
Sprinkle over a little bit more cheddar. Return to the oven for a further 10 minutes.
Make ahead
You can bake it in advance. Wrap it and then reheat it quickly in the microwave if you use a crusty sourdough loaf.
As you bake it, the crust gets really crusty and will stay crusty even if you reheat it in the microwave.
Serve right away - we love it with lasagne or spaghetti bolognese 😋
