Make your own ranch dressing from scratch with just a few simple ingredients, it takes just 5 minutes!
Ranch Dressing Ingredients
- sour cream
- buttermilk
- mayonnaise
- flat leaf parsley
- fresh dill
- fresh chives
- garlic granules
- fine sea salt
- finely ground black pepper
- fresh lemon juice
Sour Cream
Sour cream is the base of this ranch dressing making it creamy and tangy.
Buttermilk
Buttermilk offers some additional tanginess and thins out the sour cream and mayonnaise enabling a drizzling consistency, but you can make your dressing thicker or thinner depending on the amount of buttermilk you add.
Mayonnaise
Ranch dressing needs just a little bit of mayonnaise to get that perfect rich, creaminess.
Fresh Herbs
You must use fresh herbs to make this - the dried stuff just doesn’t compare.
Garlic
Garlic granules are the way to go here, folks. Fresh garlic tastes too strong as it's not cooked, so you get raw garlic taste, which isn't pleasant.
Lemon Juice
Add a teaspoon or two of lemon juice to suit your taste, but don't leave it out.
Salt and Pepper
A tiny bit of salt is needed to bring out the other flavours. Finely ground black pepper is vital for a classic ranch dressing flavour.
Who Invented Ranch Dressing?
Apparently, it was a guy called Steve Henson who moved to Anchorage, the Alaska area.
One day he invented a new salad dressing for his work crew. But I'll let you pop over to Wikipedia for the rest of the story - it's a long one!
How to serve
