Easy Cheesy Garlic Bread Recipe

Recipe Top Tips!

Yes, you can buy readymade cheese and garlic bread in any good supermarket, but seriously, it will not be anywhere close to homemade. 

I like to use ciabatta for my garlic bread, I find it's far tastier than a regular baguette.

You can make this in the morning and, before baking, carefully wrap it in foil and store it in the fridge until you're ready to bake it later on.

Garlic bread butter

Now, you can, of course, melt the butter completely, but the problem with that is you'll find the garlic will not be distributed evenly through the butter. 😉

So, for that reason, I say it's best to use softened butter and that way all the garlic is in every bite of the bread.

Italian seasoning

The addition of Italian seasoning really makes this cheesy garlic bread. I use one from Sainsbury's - it's a blend of oregano, basil, red bell pepper, marjoram, thyme, rosemary, sage and parsley.

It's perfect for homemade pizzas too!

Butter

You may be wondering why I used unsalted butter and then added salt; that way, you can make your own mind up about how much salt you add.

Ingredients

  • 1 x 270g stonebaked ciabatta loaf (the ready to bake at home kind) - mine was from Tesco's
  • 100 g unsalted butter - softened
  • a pinch of salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic granules
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • ¾ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 80 g grated cheddar
  • 80 g grated mozzarella cheese 
  • 2 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley for sprinkling

How to make it

Preheat oven to 200°C/400°F 

Cut your loaf horizontally and place it on top of a non-stick baking sheet, or line a baking tray with non-stick foil.

Sliced ciabatta bread.

Mix both of the grated cheeses together and set aside.

Grated cheddar and mozzarella in a glass bowl.

In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, garlic granules, minced garlic, Italian seasoning and just 2 tablespoons of the mixed cheeses.

Spread evenly on each side of the garlic bread.

Top it with the rest of the cheeses, sorry, no picture of that bit, I forgot to take one! 😐

Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until the cheese has melted and is golden and bubbly.

Sprinkle over the freshly chopped parsley, slice it into portions and serve.

What goes with garlic bread

  • as a starter to an Italian meal
  • a little too much bread, but you can serve it with pizza
  • a simple salad, as a light lunch

  • 100 g unsalted butter - softened
  • a pinch of salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic granules
  • 3 garlic cloves - minced
  • ¾ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 80 g cheddar - grated
  • 80 g of mozzarella cheese grated
  • 1-2 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley - leaves only, for sprinkling

Instructions

Preheat oven to 200°C/400°F
