Marks and Spencer Count On Us Meals - Review
I was recently asked to review a selection of Marks and Spencer ready meals from their Count On Us and Fuller Longer ranges.
The Count On Us range of meals are all under 400 calories which means you can still enjoy curries, puff pastry pies and risottos without feeling guilty.
Chicken and Slow Roasted Mushrooms and Baby Onions in a Rich Red Wine Sauce with a side of Vegetables
I think you'll agree with this colourful and tasty looking dish doesn't look like it's only 252 calories, does it?
I must admit I really wasn't expecting either of the Count On Us meals to be big enough or taste too amazing (purely because they're healthy if you know what I mean) but I was wrong.
The red wine sauce was really rich and tasty, the chicken pieces were a good size and were extremely tender. The vegetables - carrots, swede, parsnip and cabbage, were cooked perfectly too.
As you've probably guessed, I'm no photographer. All pictures in this post are my own and are of the actual products I tasted.
The plates I used are ordinary-sized dinner plates. All the meals were bigger than I expected they would be, which is, of course, a good thing - no hungry person wants the disappointment of being faced with a half-empty plate!
Minced Beef and Vegetable Puff Pastry Topped Pie
A good amount of meat and vegetables and the puff pastry top was nice and crisp.
The minced beef filling was seasoned well but for me personally, it did seem to have slightly too much thyme, which is odd since it's listed towards the bottom of the ingredients list.
Nothing worth fussing over though, as it still tasted good.
Fuller Longer Range
At the time of writing, Fuller Longer meals are the UK's number one healthy eating range and are higher in protein with balanced carbs and are designed to keep you Fuller, Longer!
Salmon and Potato Bake in a Mediterranean Tomato Sauce topped with Spinach and Sliced Potatoes
In my opinion, this was seriously good. If I had to choose one meal then this is my favourite.
The salmon pieces were a good size and the sauce was vibrant, rich, extremely tasty and very moreish. Slices of red pepper and baby spinach complement this dish really well.
Chicken and Almond Tagine with Lemon Couscous and Spinach
Once again, nice sized pieces of chicken in a beautiful sauce.
I loved the flaked almonds which gave a slight crunch and the pomegranate kernels added fruitiness to the dish. Honestly, you wouldn't think you were eating a ready meal. Perfect.
Now for the BIG question - was I actually Fuller Longer?
The answer is YES (and for me this is something quite amazing) always hungry am I, but both meals kept me going for much longer than I expected them to.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, no I didn't eat them both on the same day!
What about Value for Money?
All meals in this review are priced at £3.99 with the exception of the minced beef and vegetable pie which is £3.49 - I say they're extremely good value and the quality of all the meals was fantastic.
That said, I'm a huge fan of Marks and Spencer food anyway and personally, I think on value, quality and trust, they just can't be beaten.
At the time of writing the Count On Us range are on offer and are 3 for the price of 2
Fuller Longer are also on offer at 2 for £7 or 3 for £10
Disclosure: I was supplied with the above products for this review. All opinions and thoughts are my own and I was not required to write a positive review. I only ever post reviews on products I like the look of, and therefore would buy myself.
Great Marks and Sparks post. Im a student, so this is perfect as I am always looking for the food that fills me up the longest especially when it comes to price!
